Our exciting new 2010 summer variety show. Exciting, humorous and edifying. A variety show set in the 1860s, as presented at the Theatre Royal in Barkerville's heyday, where talented townsfolk performed a wide selection of material: from comedy to operetta, poetry to traditional folk songs. This is our most popular show!

Just Another Cariboo Day

Meet Stephen Blank, a delivery boy and part owner of the Going Blank Claim. On a regular delivery to a mining claim Stephen sets into motion a chain of events that land him in a whole mess of trouble. He is aided by the fast-talking Newfoundlander and newly elected Constable of Williams Creek, Edward Howman. In this never-before-told story Stephen and Ed have just 24 hours to clear Stephen’s name, find the stolen gold and save the love of his life, Henrietta.

The Bride of Barkerville

In 1862 Billy Barker made his famous strike and the town of Barkerville sprang up. That same year, Miss Florence Wilson travelled to Fort Victoria from England aboard a “Brideship.” She caught gold fever and made her way to BC’s newest boomtown as a librarian, saloon-keeper, actress and independent businesswoman. A respected and prominent citizen, her adventures led her through fires and floods, hardships and friendships. Along the way she met many of the Cariboo’s most colourful characters. Miss Wilson’s true story is a tribute to the remarkable women of the Cariboo gold rush.

Our new fall variety show for 2010. The Theatre Royal cast performs favourites from the summer season shows. Set in the 1860s, as presented at the Theatre Royal in Barkerville's heyday, where talented townsfolk performed a wide selection of material.

Rough But Honest Miner V
suitable for all ages -
Our exciting new 2010 spring show. The theme is how folks in the gold fields of Cariboo used music to tell their story. Listen as our cast tells the story of Barkerville through music, laughter and entertainment, with even some education thrown in. Hear songs like "Rough But Honest Miner" the first labour song in BC, which not only tells how a miner feels, but how to mine. Learn how music was an important part of life.
May 10th to June 17th ~ 1:00 pm daily (except Sunday) ~ half-hour show
May 15th to June 17th ~ 2:00 pm daily (except Sunday) ~ one-hour show
Note: There will be a performance of the 2:00 pm show on Sunday, May 23rd to accommodate the Victoria Day weekend; no shows on Friday, May 21st.
The Unquiet Grave: The Richfield Murder of Jessie Hamilton

Our new musical drama by Theatre Royal playwright Richard Wright takes us to Richfield, Williams Creek, September 1864, when the Scotch Lassie was murdered in her rented cabin.The story that unravels is one of tragedy and misfortune, love, but no redemption. Wright lets court records tell the story and interweaves his years of research. This play follows the court case and the actions around the Richfield murder and Jessie’s home in Scotland. Jessie’s story speaks not just for her, but several woman who died along Williams Creek under tragic circumstances and were promptly forgotten, their graves unmarked, their passing unrecorded.

Our exciting new variety show for 2010. Our full cast and guests take the stage to present a popular Music Hall variety show with music from the 1860s to the early 20th century when Music Hall was at its height. Enjoy a rollicking evening of humour, audience participation and rousing music. It’s a show not to be missed! (one-and-a-half hours, including intermission)
